BA Softball Club

The BA Softball Club has been in existence since the early 1980's, but officially formed in 1989 and currently plays in the Windsor and Maidenhead District Mixed Softball League.  The club has two teams that train through the winter and play league games on Tuesday or Thursday evenings between April and August. Home games are played at the Imperial College Heston Sports Ground (near Heathrow airport) and away games around the Windsor and Maidenhead area.  Games start at 18:30 and last for about 1.5 hours.

The club also participates in a number of weekend tournaments throughout the summer, usually culminating with the club entering a team into the annual Canadian Airline softball tournament held in Hawaii in early November.  We also host our own annual tournament in June with around 32 teams playing over the two days at our home ground (see BA Tournament page for more info).

We are always open to new members, whether you have previous experience or not, so if you are interested in taking up a new sport or whether you want to dust off that glove that's been hiding in the back of a cupboard, contact us and join our fun and friendly club.

Softball the basics...

Softball is not played with a soft ball, it is in fact hard. The design of which is the same as a baseball, but with a larger circumference. In softball, a team has 10 players. In mixed softball (which we play) this is comprised of 5 men and 5 women. The game is played on a field that looks like a scaled down version of a baseball diamond. We play ‘Slow Pitch’ where the ball is thrown under arm for the batter to hit. For more detailed information see the ‘Idiots Guide’ on the Links/Downloads page.

Match Report: BA Vs Maidenhead 4th Feb 2015

 So, my first go at captaining the indoor team this season, and also my first game back as pitcher.

A single game against Maidenhead, and a must win one at that if we are to contend against Richings Park for the top spot in the indoor league this season.

So no pressure then!

The lineup was settled, the batting order sorted, all of our team made it to the venue in good time to warm up, we even had to let Tracey go and join Backstabio (Colin) on the other team to make up their numbers (more about them later).

All that was left was to play ball!
